We love these botanicals, because they have the appearance of a leaf, but have the "heft" that you'd expect from a seed pod. Derived from the Aspidosperma pyrifolium tree from Brazil, They have a wonderful, "teardrop-like" shape (hence the name), and really will look great as a sort of "transitional" botanical in your leaf litter zone!
They help evoke that tropical stream-bottom look, reminiscent of the pods and fruits which fall into the water. They're good-sized, too- averaging about 2.25"-3.25"(5.71-8.25cm) in length, and about 1.25-1.5" (3.17-3.81cm) wide at their widest point. They have an interesting, pebbled, nut-like outer shell and a smooth, woody interior.
As an added "perk", shrimp seem to like to pick at the slightly softer interior of this pod as it slowly breaks down!
PREPARATION: We recommend boiling these pods for at least 30-45 minutes to get them waterlogged enough to sink. They sometimes can be stubborn, taking a bit longer, however.
