An awesome little find, "Casulo Pods" offer a great combination of durability, texture, and "tint producing capability!" You'll love them! These "cocoon-like" pods possess a hard exterior "skin", but soften up just a bit after boiling, much in the way "Flor Rio" or "Concha Pods" do. The neat thing about these guys is that they have a nice little opening and a hollow interior cavity that is juts big enough for small fishes or shrimp to hang out in!
These are quite attractive, have a great color and texture, and can really help evoke that "flooded forest" vibe in an aquarium filled with leaves, other botanicals, and driftwood. "Casulo Pods" are variable in size, but typically measure anywhere from 2.5"-3" (6.35-7.62 cm), with an opening as wide as 1"(2.54 cm) on some specimens. They are small enough that you can scatter a bunch of them around the substrate, and they look great with similar-colored/textured botanicals, like "Savu Pods" and "Jungle Pods." In addition to being great for aquariums, they work nicely in vivariums as well, and they really go well with almost any leaf you'd use in such a setup. We offer these botanicals in a package of 7 specimens, so you have enough to create some really cool effects!
And, they give off a respectable amount of tannins when submerged, so you're getting a nice combination of aesthetics and functionality! They take about 45 minutes of continuous boiling in order to sink; we typically will let them soak overnight in some fresh water afterwards to really waterlog them before adding them to an aquarium. They will soften up a bit over time, and although the opening to the cavity might close up a bit after preparation, they are pliable enough to gently pry open with a tweezers or by hand as you see fit. Like many pods with durable shells, they will recruit some beneficial biofilms shortly after they're submerged. In our test aquariums, they've lasted anywhere from 2-4 months before they start to really break down.
NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in color, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.
All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
