Branches and twigs form the basis of many natural aquatic ecosystems, and they're perfectly suited for doing the same in aquariums. I first started playing with oak twigs and branches decades ago, and they've been a real "go to" for most of my botanical-method aquariums for years.
I'm certain that you'll find a thousand reasons for "Twenty Twigs" packs!
WHY WE LOVE THEM: These twigs epitomize our philosophy of "functional aesthetics!"
They're collected as naturally-fallen specimens from California Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia)trees. Each twig has a little bit of character that makes it unique! I've used the larger ones to construct entire aquascapes!
Oh- and an additional "bonus?" These twigs are packed with tannins and can really tint your water nicely! And they look so "generic-tropical" that you won't be able to resist trying these! Most important: I've found over the years that oak twigs beautifully recruit biofilms and fungal growth, fostering an aquatic ecology, and creating unique foraging surfaces for all kinds of fishes.
They last a long time once submerged, too!
"Twenty Twigs" is just that- twenty nicely random little twigs, ranging ranging in size from less than 2 inches (5.08cm) up to 10 inches (25.4cm)! This is a range, of course, and the sizes in a given pack are based upon available supplies at the time of purchase.
If you're looking for larger pieces, we have a "Large Size" package (still 20 pieces), which only contains slightly larger pieces...some possibly up to 15"(38.1cm), and all considerably thicker than our "Regular Size" specimens. Again, the exact sizes are subject to availability.
PREPARATION: We like to soak them in fresh water for a few hours, or overnight, then let them sit in the water until they sink easily. Give 'em a quick rinse, and you're good to go! You could boil them, if you'd like. Of course, the larger sized ones won't likely fit in a pot, so it's all about soaking, like any other wood type.
