Here we have another amazing little woody pod, actually a fruit capsule, which offers both a cool aesthetic and delightful utility. The fruit capsule of the Shrebera swietenioides (from the family Oleaceae...olives!) looks for all the world like a little light bulb in general shape.
The Hindi language term used in their region of origin to describe the tree they come from is "Mokha"- hence our use of the name. FUN FACT: In some areas of India, it's called the "Weaver's Beam Tree", because the wood from the Mokha Tree is used by weavers to make the beam of their looms!
Small fishes and shrimp will forage among them, making them a functional and aesthetic asset to your aquarium! For a "deeper dive" on this botanical, check out our recent edition of "The Tint!"
They range in size from about 2.25"-2.5"(5.71-6.35cm) in length, and about 1.25" to 1.5"(3.17-3.81cm) wide. They're a dense little pod with an interesting, "nut-like" outer shell and a woody interior. Mokha Pod sections can really help you evoke the appearance of a tropical stream, replete with fallen seeds and such.
PREPARATION: We find that boiling them for at least 45 minutes to an hour is needed to get them waterlogged enough to sink.
ORIGIN: India
