These are very interesting, woody pods, derived from the outer valve of the fruit of the Swietenia macrophylla tree, which hails from a wide range of tropical locales (although native to Brazil), and are just the sort of thing you'd find floating or submerged in a tropical jungle stream. Often called "Skyfruit" by locals in the regions in which they're found because they hang from the trees- a name we fell in love with!
These botanicals can leach a terrific amount of tannins, akin to a similar-sized piece of Mopani wood or other driftwood. They are known to be full of flavonoids, saponins, and other humic substances, which have known positive health effects on fishes.
Averaging approximately 3" (7.62cm) in length, and about 1" (2.54cm) in width, these rather thin pods will look super cool in a wide range of aquatic applications, from aquariums to vivariums. They hold up very well under long term submersion and humidity, breaking down extremely slowly (we've had some down for over a year with the "wear and tear" finally starting to show significantly).
PREPARATION: This one requires a good amount of boiling to get it to stay submerged. We recommend about an hour, although sometimes the occasional stubborn one will take longer. A 24 hour "post boil soak" in freshwater is also a great idea, to really let it leach out the initial organics and bound-up tannins.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
