The family Donacidae contains 5 genera and over a dozen species. These bivalves are an important component of coastal food chains. While not typcally found in a Mangrove estuary habitat, their diminutive shells are representative of many of the types of small bivalve mollusks that do reside there. We love these because they are small, simple, and when scattered about the aquarium substrate, help provide that extra touch of authenticity in the brackish water aquarium!
Our Donacidae shells range in size from 1/2"- 1" (1.27cm-2.54cm) and will vary in size and coloration. These shells are cleaned in water and ready to go with a minimum of additional preparation. As with any shells we use in our tanks, it's always a good idea to give them a quick rinse in freshwater before adding them to the aquarium. These shells come in packs of 50 halves, which will provide nice coverage in most aquariums.
NOTE: Every specimen is different, so the photo serves as a representation of what to expect the pieces contained in a typical package could look like.

All of our shells are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to rinse prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any natural materials into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
