We talk a lot about "biotope-inspired" aesthetics in our world. What does this mean? From our viewpoint, it's about making your aquarium look a bit more like a "slice of the bottom"; in this instance, one of the many Amazonian headwater rainforest streams that you'll find in Peru. This pack was inspired by images we've seen of the Rio Madre de Dios, a typical rainforest stream- with a soft, sandy bottom covered in decaying vegetation, including leaves, seed pods, bark, and other botanical materials. The lighting is fairly dim, save an occasional break in the forest canopy, so you won't find much in the way of plants in this stream, save a few Echinodorus.
Home to an abundance of characins, catfish, and cichlids, it's a perfect biotope to model! And, since that's our thing, we figured that we'd take some of the difficulty out of choosing which aquatic botanicals to use, and assemble a cool selection of small pieces that we think evoke the appearance of this environment.
This cool pack includes 4 leaf-like "Terra Sorrindo", 5 "Teardrop Pods", 5 "Coco Curls", 10 Nano Catappa leaves, 6 delicate "Flor Rio" pods, and 2 exotic specimens of Catappa bark. It's sufficient to give a nice look to aquariums up to about 40 gallons. You might want want to supplement this pack with some of your "a la carte" favorites from our site if you have a larger tank, or if you're looking for a more "dense" look. Pair this collection with some natural colored sand, a couple of nice pieces of Manzanita, and you're good to go!
All in all, "Riacho de Mata" is a great pack that will help you create your own interpretation of a dynamic, rainforest stream ! And...it comes in the uber-cool Tannin jute bag!
All of these items require some preparation before use, as outlined in our "Aquatic Botanical Preparation" section.
NOTE: As these are natural products, the exact appearance of the items you receive will differ slightly from this shown in the photo. The photo serves to give you an idea of what to expect.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: From time to time, we may substitute 2 "Ceu Fruta" for the Catappa Bark, as it is not always available.
All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
