Tannin Reserve "Borneo Grade A Mega" Catappa Leaves (Package of 4 Leaves)

These are the BIGGEST Catappa leaves we've ever seen!

As lovers of all things Catappa, we see and hear about a lot of different leaves. However, nothing could have prepared us for THESE monsters! Tannin Rserve "Mega" Catappa leaves are "Grade  A" leaves that average a whopping 12 plus inches (30.48cm) or more! Of course, when we first saw them, our hearts skipped a beat...and our imaginations began to soar!

Think of the possibilities with these huge leaves! You can easily create amazing leaf litter beds with just a few of 'em in an average-sized aquarium. Or, in a large aquarium, they would look perfect! And, can't you just visualize them in a vivarium, helping create a realistic "jungle" bottom? The creative applications and possibilities for these leaves are endless!

These superior leaves are the epitome of what is known in the Catappa trade as "Grade A"- meaning they have no visible tears, imperfections, or holes, and are fully formed and beautifully shaped. Hailing from the rain forests of Sandakan, on the eastern coast of Sabah, Borneo, these leaves have been very carefully handled all the way from collection to distribution, packed fresh after drying, just for Tannin Aquatics.  Not only are they simply huge, but the quality, freshness, and consistency of these leaves is immediately obvious!

They're gathered after having naturally fallen from the trees, rinsed and carefully dried.  We actually know the people who are handling our leaves personally, and they know how obsessed we are with leaves, so you're assured consistency, quality, and value every time. Our source is as passionate about Catappa leaves as we are. Their pride- and ours- shows in every leaf!

Our Tannin Reserve "Borneo Grade A Mega" Catappa Leaves come in a package of 4.  They have tons of character, and each one is different, with beautiful color and texture. You just won't find leaves of this size and quality everywhere. Tannin Reserve series leaves are high quality leaves, curated by people who really know what they're doing. The "Megas" are perfect for the aquarist who wants some of the biggest and best Catappa leaves available!

These leaves have significant amounts of tannins bound up in their tissues, more than many other varieties, and really do a great job providing "the tint" and other benefits of "blackwater." And, given their size, the potential for huge releases of tannins that could overwhelm a small tank is a possibility! Before using them in your aquarium, we recommend steeping them in boiling water for about 10 minutes, or soaking them in fresh water for a few days to let them become waterlogged and to leach off some of the initial tannins and organics. Then, you can place them in your aquatic feature however you wish.

Just how many leaves to use depends upon what type of effect you're looking for. We recommend starting off slowly, with 1 "Mega" Catappa leaf for each 25 gallons (94.63 L) of capacity as a starting point. Could you use them in a smaller aquarium? Of course, but you'll have to gauge the results for yourself and adjust as you see fit. These leaves tend to last a bit longer than some of the other Catappa varieties we've worked with- no surprise, given their huge size. As the leaves decompose, you can leave them in, or siphon out and replace as necessary.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!

NOTE: Due to natural variations of leaves, each one will appear different. The photo is a representation of what to expect.
