Origin: Sanggau, West Kalimantan, Borneo
If you're looking for something truly unique and interesting for your next 'scape, you're going to absolutely LOVE these newly-available roots. It looks a bit like "Spider Wood" at first, and does share a similar "heft" and feel. The big difference is the incredibly intricate root systems that most of the specimens possess. These are ideal for a variety of aquascaping projects.
Derived from the rather invasive Melastoma candidum, these dried roots are carefully procured and selected by hand by fellow fish geeks in Indo, just for us. To our knowledge, these unusual roots have seldom, if ever been available in the U.S. before.
Like its distant cousin, "Spider Wood", this stuff tends to float when first immersed, so you'd probably want to anchor it down in a bucket of fresh water for a few days to get it to saturate and sink. It may occasionally attract some fungal growth or biofilm during the first week or two underwater, but this is easily removed and tends to go away on its own anyways.
You can achieve all sorts of interesting effects with this stuff, and the possibilities are endless. We were so excited to receive this wood that to took all of our will power (and a few threats) to keep us and our crew from utilizing them in our own tanks!
All in all, a truly unique wood for creating truly unique aquaecapes!
