Tala Palm Husks

An interesting botanical, actually the protective husk of the fruit of the Tala Palm (Borassus flabellifer), which, when dry, it has shiny, leathery "skin" and a firm "woody" interior. After you boil and/or soak it, the interior softens considerably. The interior of pod breaks down relatively quickly- in as little as 2-3 weeks.

Plecos seem to like rasping on the soft interior of the pods, which makes us think that these might be kind of good as an occasional "treat"- sort of the piscine equivalent of a "chew toy", if you will.  And shrimp love the biofilms they recruit!

Another great pod to mix in with your leaf litter, Tala Palm Husks are another "lightweight" botanical, which are essentially like heavier leaves in their texture, appearance, and use.

ORIGIN: Southeast Asia

PREPARATION: We recommend boiling them for at least an hour before use, in order to saturate them enough to sink.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
