Hailing from the Amazon region, and particularly the Rio Napo, it's namesake, this lively little fish is found in a variety of habitats, ranging from flooded forests to sand banks and larger streams and tributaries. A member of the C. elegans group, C. napoensis is often found mixed in with shipments of the more common elegans. Mike's careful eyes were able to discern their subtle differences, and we're excited to offer them to you! It's a fantastic addition to the aquarium. As they are found in social groups in the wild, we offer them in groups of six. Theyre perfect for a peaceful "community" aquarium of characins, dwarf cichlids, etc.
A hardscape of fine sand, roots driftwood, and of course, some leaves and other botanicals would create a setup that's sure to make these little guys feel right at home! We love the idea of setting up a dedicated "species aquarium" for this or other Corydoras species, as they are fascinating when kept this way!
Although it's perfectly suited to our style of blackwater, botanical-style aquariums, it's adaptable to a wide range of environmental conditions, ranging from soft, slightly acidic water (pH 5.8-6.8) to moderately hard, slightly alkaline pH 7.0-7.4) water. This fish does fine within the usual tropical aquarium temperature range of 73-79 degrees Fahrenheit. A clean, well-maintained consistent environment is equally- if not more- important to these fish as it is to maintain a specific "target" number for them.
They'll eat just about anything you too in, and seem to really go after food items like small worms, brine shrimp, sinking pellets, etc. with gusto. Be sure not to overfeed them, and to maintain clean conditions in the aquarium. Of course, you also want to make sure that they get their fair share in a community aquarium, as they tend to stick towards the bottom of the aquarium during their regular activities.
Ours are well-fed, carefully acclimated to captivity, and carefully selected by Mike Tuccinardi at his facility in Bouder, CO. You'll appreciate the care and attention that has been provided to these little fishes throughout the chain of custody, and the quality and health will be apparent immediately!
