There is something very cool about smaller-sized versions of botanicals we already know about! Enter the "nano"-sized Lotus Seed Pod!
Like it's larger bretheren, it's part of the "seed head" of the Lotus plant (Nelumbo nucifera). However, little, light-as-a-feather botanicals average 0.75- 1 inches (approx. 10.9-2.54 cm) in diameter!
Interestingly, the seeds, and possibly the seed pods of the Lotus are known to contain polyphenols, protein, polysaccharides...compounds often found in other botanicals and leaves to which "medicinal" properties for fishes are ascribed. However, we'll stop short of implying any benefit for your fishes other than their unique aesthetics!
These seed pods are the by-product of human food production in India (almost every part of this plant is considered edible!), and are simply collected, cleaned, and air dried, free from chemicals or preservatives.
Like any of the botanicals we offer, preparation consists of boiling them for approximately 40 minutes or so, followed by an overnight soak. Being super lightweight and quite buoyant, it will take a bit of effort to get these little guys down! One of the best things you can do is to hold them down for a short periods of time during the boiling process to really get them saturated. Generally, a single "boil" and one or two day soak in fresh water will do the trick! Sometimes you need to boil and soak them more than once to achieve "submersion"- not always fun, but this extra effort will typically get them to sink!
These pods tend to soften significantly after preparation, and they will gradually break down over a period of a month or two, so they are not super long-lasting once submerged. They will incur some biofilm growth along the way. Annoyingly, the occasional pod might rot or fill with gas and float to the surface, so some observation is important.
We include 12 pods in a package for added value and to help you better employ the aesthetic benefit of these pods in your biotope system!

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
