"L052 Atabapo Butterfly Pleco" (Dekeyseria sp. "L052")- Approx. 1.75"-2.5" Specimen

Another great armored catfish for collectors, the so-called "Butterfly Pleco" has a neat color pattern and relatively large pectoral and pelvic fins, which definitely inspired it's popular name!

Our specimens are carefully collected from the Atabapo River. They display great colors and general overall health when provided with conditions that are similar to their natural habitat: Typically warm, soft, slightly acidic water. Of course, blackwater conditions and a botanical style aquarium are ideal! Like other Loricaridae, the "Atabapo Butterfly" prefers diffused lighting, so a collection of wood and rock cover for the fish to retreat to is great! You can keep more than one in the same tank, provided it's large enough (like a 4 foot tank or larger) and has sufficient hiding places. It can be a bit "cantankerous" with others of its kind, or other bottom dwellers, for that matter, so these little nooks and crannies are super important!

This fish will spend a lot of time grazing on the "biocover" or "aufwuchs" that accumulates on rocks, wood, and botanicals, so it's important to add it to a tank that has a good amount of this material. It will also adapt to prepared foods of all kinds, but make sure that you include a significant amount of vegetable matter in its diet for it's digestive and overall health! They have been spawned in captivity, and typically will produce a brood between 50- 120 eggs, which hatch into surprisingly fast-growing fry!

These fishes top out around 5" or so, making them a nice addition to a mid-size to large tank. Our specimens have been acclimated and well cared for by noted aquarist Mike Tuccinardi at his facility in Colorado, and are active, healthy, and eat well immediately.
