Gold Tetra- (Hemigrammus rodwayi) - Group of 6 specimens

The Gold Tetra is one of those fishes that you simply have to see under the right conditions to really appreciate!

If the fish has been acclimated to a nicely aquascaped, moderately illuminated aquarium, it will demonstrate its appreciation by sporting a really cool metallic sheen! Would you freak out knowing that some populations of this species have an even more vivid metallic sheen because of exposure to a trematode parasite, which causes a reaction that "kicks it up a notch?" It's harmless to the fish and others, just in case you're wondering...but it did cause some confusion for taxonomists for a lot of years, thinking that it was different species!

It's a fish that comes from a variety of habitats, ranging from our beloved blackwater to neutral/slightly alkaline clear water habitats, with sand bottoms, submerged roots, and some botanical materials. In fact, it is even reportedly found under some brackish conditions in coastal areas of its range...Interesting, huh? Although aquatic plants are usually not a part of its wild habitat, the fish does make a really nice addition to an attractive planted tank! It tolerates a wide range of temperatures, but we're comfortable recommending a temp of around 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Gold Tetra readily adapts to aquarium life, literally gobbling up just about any foods you care to feed it. An interesting, peaceful, and active fish that is a great "foil" for more gaudily-colored Tetras and dwarf cichlids. Our specimens are on the smaller size (about .75"-1" or so on average) of their maximum length of about 2 inches. We offer them in groups of 6, which is really the minimum number of specimens you should keep for optimum behavior and well-being. They are healthy, well-acclimated fish that are, in our opinion, vastly underrated as a resident of a wide variety of aquariums!
