These aquarium favorites are collected in the wild in their native Thailand, and are solid, healthy, and interesting fish for a variety of aquarium situations. With their unique appearance and interesting swimming habits, it's little wonder why they've been so loved by so many hobbyists for so long!
Although it's adaptable to a pH range from acidic to alkaline, K. vitreolus looks its best in a blackwater aquarium with soft, slightly acidic water, in our opinion! It is most comfortable with lots of soft sand, a few well-spaced driftwood tangles, and perhaps some leaves and other botanicals for good measure! A canopy of floating aquatic plants will serve the dual function of providing shade and keeping the fish calm.
The Glass Catfish is generally peaceful, even with members of it's own kind, so you can keep a group of them without any issues if you have a large enough aquarium. Although not a strict shoaling or schooling fish, they are found in aggregations, so it's fun to keep them in small groups to bring out their most interesting behaviors. We offer them in groups of 3 so that you can create a group as desired.
Hardly fussy with regards to water chemistry, it fares well at water temperatures ranging from 76-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Employ overall good husbandry, including regular water exchanges and careful feeding to keep the fish healthy and happy.
This fish spends a lot of time cruising the upper levels of the water strata. It is a healthy feeder, and a balanced diet of meaty foods should be provided, such as Brine Shrimp, Blood Worms, Daphnia, etc.
A great choice for a medium-sized Asian-themed aquarium with peaceful fishes, like Gourami or Rasbora.
