Dried "Estalo Pods" (Package of 10)

The "Estalo Pod"  has a rather menacing name, derived from the Portuguese word for "snap", which is what these little pods look like they can do! No worry here, it's just as benign as any of our other little pods. They are almost comical in appearance, resembling, at least superficially, a Japanese anime character! This little guy is another one that will help replicate  the interesting pods and fruits which fall into South American rivers, enriching the waters and providing foraging areas for many species of fishes.

"Estalo Pods" are on the smaller size; ranging from about 1.25"- 1.5" in length, and about 3/4"-1.25" wide. They have an cool, nut-like outer shell and a woody interior. When randomly scattered about your aquarium's substrate, they really help you replicate the appearance of an Amazonian stream bottom!

Small fishes and shrimp seem to love them, but at 1.5" in length, they are probably a bit small to shelter anything small Cichlid fry and Tetras. We think they're best suited to "habitat enrichment" - helping you recreate a dynamic environment with their cool look!

Preparation for these little pods is much like many of our other small pods, which means  boiling them for at least an hour  (sometimes more) to get them waterlogged enough to sink. Oh, and you should know that often times, after boiling/soaking, they "close up" and look just like a submerged seed or bean- which isn't that bad- but different than what they look like when dry! We're 100% convinced that a little bit of prep time is well worth it, in terms of the aesthetics that these little pods bring to your aquarium.

"Estalo Pods" will leach small amounts of tannins into the water over time, so keep this in mind when using them in your aquarium. Boiling will remove a lot of the initial tannins, but do expect a little "tint" over time.

We include 10 pieces in a package for added value and to help you better enjoy the aesthetic benefit of these pods in your biotope system.

NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in color, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
