As you know, we're huge fans of just about any kind of pod, seed, or leaf that enhances the aquatic environment. And we're equally as big fans of being completely honest about stuff. What are getting at here? Well, when this very sexy aquatic botanical, the "Milho Pod", arrived, we were filled with excitement and anticipation...Just look at these pods! They're extremely attractive, have a great size, and are totally reminiscent of the kinds of materials you'd see in rivers and streams in South America. They almost look like little corn kernels or even fossilized shark teeth, right?
The only problem was, when we put them through their paces by soaking, boiling, etc., about all we managed to accomplish was to create some slightly wrinkled, extremely buoyant pods that simply would not sink. We boiled them for two hours, soaked them for over a month, drilled 'em...Nada.
So, we must be honest with you and let you know that there are scant few uses for these in the aquarium, short of using them as a replacement for corks to tie yarn to for cool spawning mops! They just won't sink. That being said- and never being ones to abandon a good botanical- we're happy to tell you that they look incredible in vivariums or terrariums as a natural "prop"- for what we like to call "habitat enrichment."
So, if you have frogs and other herps, these are seriously cool pods to play with in your vivarium or terrarium, where they can help create hiding spaces, territories, and even "terraces" or substitutes for rocks in simulated waterfalls, as one of our beta testers suggested (we have yet to see them used in this fashion, however). They range from about 1.5"- 2.5" in length. We offer 'em 5 to a package, which gives you ample opportunity to play with them in a variety of situations. In fact, we'd LOVE to see what kinds of uses you come up with for them!
NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in color, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.
All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
