Dried Magnolia Seed Pods (Package of 2)

We love how so many frog and herp enthusiasts have been digging the aquatic botanicals that we've been offering, using them to enrich your vivarium displays and bring a great aesthetic to your work! Well, you guys certainly have some good taste! A lot of you contacted us and told us, "You have to offer Magnolia seed pods!" Never ones to let a fellow aquatic geek down, we sourced these wonderful, natural pods that are exactly what you've been asking for!

They are carefully collected fallen, free of pesticides or other contaminants, and are gently cleaned, then sun dried. Although they are clean, please note that we always recommend an additional rinse in fresh water, as well as another brief freshwater soak before use.

Magnolia seed pods are really durable, and stand up very well to the humid vivarium environment, lasting a very long time. With their very "woody" composition, they actually tolerate submersion nicely, being useful for tadpoles as a foraging area. However, we must be up front and tell you that we have not personally used them for aquariums, although we have every reason to believe that they would offer many of the advantages of our "typical" aquatic botanicals. They are a much-loved vivarium/terrarium "prop"  for habitat enrichment, and look amazing in this environment!

Initially after introduction to the humid vivarium environment, they might get a little bit of mold or fungus on their surfaces. Not to worry- after a relatively brief time, they recruit large numbers beneficial microfauna, such as springtails and other insects, isopods, etc., which clean it right up, and also perform valuable services keeping the substrate clean and free of excessive mites and such! The large surface area in Magnolia seed pods helps provide a huge refuge for these and other organisms, some of which which are perfect supplemental foraging for many herps!

Just like with our other pods, these are perfect to help cover open substrate and supplement leaf litter in terrestrial environments. As mentioned above, they tolerate submersion very well and look cool underwater, so if you want to experiment with them as aquascaping "props", have at it and let us know how it works out!

They're pretty good size, averaging about 3"-5" in length, so they really can fill an area quite nicely! We offer them two to a package, so you can get maximum utility and aesthetic benefits from them.

NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in color, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
