Dried "Encontro Pods" (Package of 5)

Here is a pod we were super excited about! It has a very cool look and is surprisingly useful!

As pods go go, these are pretty respectable in size; ranging from about 2.75"- 4" in length, and about 1.25" to 2" wide. They're a dense, surprisingly heavy little pod with an interesting, leaf-like appeaarance,  highly variable in color. Encontro Pods really help you evoke the appearance of an Amazonian stream, replete with fallen leaves, branches, seeds and such.

Small fishes and shrimp take to them easily, and you'll find your shrimp foraging among them, and small fry will occasionally speak refuge in them, much as they do with leaves! You can even get creative and attach aquatic mosses and ferns to them, and come up with a cool look!

Preparation for these little pods is much like many of our other pods, which means that we're talking about boiling them for at least half an hour to get them waterlogged enough to sink. It could take longer, depending on the particular pod! As with our other pods, the prep time is totally worth it for the aesthetic reward that these bring to your biotope.

Encontro Pods will leach small amounts of tannins into the water over time, so keep this in mind when using them in your aquarium. Boiling will remove a lot of the initial tannins, but do expect a little "tint" over time. They will often lose their "curve" after boiling, but may be flexible enough to bend a bit! They last a surprisingly long time (many months), and will gradually soften and decompose, accumulating a biofilm, and adding to the richness of the aquatic environment.

We include 5 pieces in a package for added value and to help you better employ the aesthetic benefit of these pods in your biotope system.
