Yet another cool botanical item derived from coconut shells! These are really cool "accent pieces" for all sorts of biotope replications, ranging from aquariums to vivariums! "Pedaco" means "chunk" in Portuguese, and that's a very apt description, we think! Each little chunk has a unique shape and texture, adding diversity to your aquascape. If you look in a lot of tropical streams, you'll see all sorts of material like this strewn about the substrate. If you're a fan of our "Coco Curls", you'll love these stubby little relatives! They are free of pesticides or other contaminants, gently cleaned, and sun dried.
"Coco Pedacos" have a light, "stringy" texture. Like their big brothers, the "Coco Curls", they make great little foraging areas for shrimp, dwarf cichlids, catfish, dwarf cichlids, and even some killies. Shrimp and Plecos seem to love grazing/chewing on them as they soften after being submerged for extended periods of time. You might want to say that they are the Pleco equivalent of a "chew toy!"
We love to use them with our other botanicals to cover open substrate and supplement leaf litter to simulate Amazonian stream bottoms. They're highly variable, yet most seem to measure about 1.5" (3.81cm) on average, with some being slightly smaller or slightly larger.
These chunks are pretty hard on the outside, and somewhat fibrous, as mentioned above. In our experience, they will impart a very noticeable "tint" to the water and may leach some small quantities of tannins into the water over the long term.
You'll need to boil them for at least an hour (sometimes a bit more) to waterlog them, because they are really light, and float like a cork when first immersed! We recommend following the boil with an overnight soak, then go for it and add them to your aquatic feature. Or, if you're incredibly patient, you can simply soak them for a couple of weeks to help waterlog them! As with some of our very lightweight pods, you may, on occasion, need to get really clever and weigh them down to get them to sink, even after boiling!
"Coco Pedacos" will gradually decompose and soften over a long period time, adding to the richness of your aquarium environment. They tend to swell up a bit after submersion, and get a bit more "stringy" over time as they waterlog and "age" in the aquarium.
"Coco Pedacos" come 8 to a package, so you get enough to try some cool stuff with them! We've found a ton of uses for these cool botanicals, and we have no doubt that you will, too!

NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in color, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.
All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
