These versatile aquatic botanicals are derived from coconut shells, and are really cool-looking "accent pieces" for a tropical stream biotope aquarium! Each one has a very unique shape, and they lend themselves well to all sorts of aquascaping purposes. They are free of pesticides or other contaminants, gently cleaned, and sun dried.
"Coco Curls" have a cool, almost "stringy" appearance and texture. They make great little foraging areas for shrimp, dwarf cichlids, catfish, dwarf cichlids, and even some killies. Another perfect, natural "prop" to simulate the river biotope, where branches, seeds, and pods fall into the water and accumulate, adding to the diversity of the streambed. Shrimp, in particular, as well as some Plecos, seem to love grazing on them as they soften after being submerged for extended periods of time.
We love to use them to cover open substrate and supplement leaf litter to simulate Amazonian stream bottoms. They're highly variable, ranging in size from about 1.5"-3" in length on average, with a "monster" curl hitting around 3.5" or so.
These curls are pretty hard on the outside, and somewhat fiberous. In our experience, they will impart a very noticeable "tint" to the water short term, and may leach some small quantities of tannins into the water over the long term. They look awesome in vivariums, too!
You'll need to boil them for at least an hour (sometimes a bit more) to waterlog them, because they are really quite light and readily float when first immersed! Or, you can simple soak them for a couple of weeks to help waterlog them, or some combination of the two! As with some of our very lightweight pods, you may even need to get really clever and weigh them down to get them to sink, even after boiling!
These curls will gradually decompose and soften over a long period time, adding to the richness of your aquarium environment. We've seen some hobbyists attach epiphytic mosses and plants to them, which perhaps provide a bit of weight as well.
All in all, these curls are awesome aquatic botanicals, and they are ideal for a variety of biotope simulations.

All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
