If you're a brackish water enthusiast- or for that matter, a blackwater, botanical-style aquarium enthusiast, you love diversity of materials. We've got you covered with our "Mangrove Mix", a combination of Yellow Mangrove Leaves and Red Mangrove Leaves! It's 2 ounces of Mangrove goodness!
Mangroves are one of the most prevalent and vital plants in the world, and are important in the aquatic habitat. As the leaves of the mangrove fall into the surrounding waters, they support a complex food web. Their litter is transformed into detritus, which partly supports this food web.
Keeping with our tradition of "tinted" aquariums, these leave will impart tannins into the water, giving it a slight amber-brown tint. If allowed to decompose completely in the aquarium, the leaves will be acted upon by fungi and bacteria, just like their freshwater counterparts, to enrich the aquatic environment and form the basis of a unique captive food web. This are durable, long-lasting leaves.
And, you absolutely can utilize them in a freshwater aquarium-they're one of our personal "go-to" leaves for this purpose!
ORIGIN: Sandakan, Sabah Malaysia/Hawaii, U.S.A.
PREPARATION: Preparation is like any of our other leaves. We recommend boiling them for about 20 minutes, or at least a 20-30 minute "steep" in warm fresh water, to soften them up a bit and aid in submergence.
NOTE: The photo is for illustrative purposes. As these are a natural product, expect variation in the appearance of the leaves that you will receive. The number of leaves you will receive is not a "set" number; rather, these are sold by weight, and depending upon the size of the leaves we have available at the time of your order, may vary slightly.
All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
