Very similar to the Nypa Palm Pod, but a lot "fatter" (typically 5"-6"/12.7-15.24cm in length, and 3.25"-4"/8.25-10.16cm in diameter) , these are also derived from the Nypa fruticans palm (also known as the "Mangrove Palm"), these pods often fall into the water and are commonly found submerged after they saturate.
They do impart some tannins, which can color your tank water and reduce the pH, and may recruit a "biofilm", which is not a cause for alarm. Many small fishes, shrimp, and fry will feed on it, so it's just another supplemental food source and benefit of these botanicals!
PREPARATION: We recommend that you boil them for at least 45-60 minutes or more before use, then let them cool for about 5 additional minutes. Sometimes it takes a much longer "boil/soak" time to help them sink. After boiling, we highly recommend a soak in fresh water for several days to leach out the initial burst of tannins and organics.
